On Sept. 10, four Scouts from Canal Winchester Scouts BSA Troop 103 completed their boards of review to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.
To achieve Scouting’s highest honor, candidates must advance through six other ranks, learn outdoor and life skills along the way, serve in a leadership position in their troop, earn at least 21 merit badges, plan and implement a community service project, and complete a board of review administered by the local council.
For their community service projects:
Sam Robinson, a senior at Groveport Madison High School, installed a paver patio for Canal Winchester Human Services.
Nate Ellison, a senior at Canal Winchester High School, organized a musical instrument donation drive to benefit the Canal Winchester Middle School band.
Bennett Payne, a freshman at Canal Winchester, rebuilt a dilapidated shelter house at Slate Run Metro Park.
Brendan Kaltenborn, a sophomore at Groveport Madison, restored an overgrown baseball field at a Groveport Middle School.
These four Scouts join three other Troop 103 members who also earned the rank of Eagle earlier this year: Zach Snyder, Andy Estabillo and Josh Morrison.
Troop 103, chartered by the Canal Winchester Lions Club, has been part of the Canal Winchester community for 99 years and will celebrate its centennial in the fall of 2026.
Fewer than 6% of youth entering Scouting America’s Scouts BSA program achieve the rank of Eagle. Nationally, Eagle Scout service projects contribute millions of service hours each year. To find a local troop or Cub Scout pack, visit www.beascout.org.
