The Groveport Police Department has tossed their hat into the statewide First Responder Photo Challenge, Light Ohio Blue.

According to the Light Ohio Blue website, the photo challenge is a celebration of Ohio’s public safety agencies and the communities they serve.

The challenge is held each year in remembrance of the September 11 attacks and the heroic response of the first responders.

“This friendly statewide competition invites agencies to showcase their vehicles in creative, pride-filled photos,” the website says.

Officer Josh Dillard set up the shot during dusk.

“The chief recommended I ask Warren for help and Warren said he thought I was doing great,” Dillard said.

Dillard chose to take the photo at Motts Military Museum to incorporate the firetruck on display from the 9/11 attacks.

From September 11–30, 2025, the public will have the opportunity to vote for their favorites. The photo contests hopes to bring together communities from across Ohio in support of police, fire, EMS, and other public safety professionals.

Visitors to the Light Ohio Blue website can vote on several Ohio First Responder entries.

As of the week of Sept. 15, leaders were the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Grove City Police Department, and the Tipp City Police Department.

Groveport PD has votes in the 300 range, and is in the same category at Tipp City Police who has around 2,000 votes.

“We’re honored to be a part of anything they (Light Ohio Blue) put on. It’s a great opportunity to have our community behind the police department and Motts,” Dillard said.
