Wagnalls Memorial Library presses into fundraising

By Theresa Garee

Public libraries have faced a decrease in funding. More close to home, the Wagnalls Memorial Library has seen a 22 percent decrease in funding since 2023.

“The library at the Wagnalls Memorial operates almost entirely on public library funding from the state budget with a small amount of donations and grants. The Foundation supports the library by ensuring the library building is operational and through oversight by its executive director and accountant,” said Executive Director Deb Silvia.

However, the library has not seen a decrease in patronage or services.

“While it’s been a challenge for Wagnalls to adapt, the library is thriving. I enjoy seeing hundreds of adults and children visit each week.” said Silvia. In an effort to continue to serve the community, the library has held steady with a positive outlook toward fundraising efforts, such as the “80’s Mall Murder Madness”. A mystery theater event produced by the Wagnalls Community Theater.

The Wagnalls Community Theater actors donate their time to this cause. Attendees will enjoy the 1980s ambiance while trying to find out a who-dun-it..
