Rick Palsgrove, former editor of the Groveport Messenger, was honored with a proclamation on July 28 during the Groveport City Council meeting.
Palsgrove served as editor for 28 years, becoming known for his thorough research and deep commitment to the community. His reporting covered everything from historical features to contentious school board issues.
“Rick Palsgrove’s bi-weekly reporting of the happenings in Groveport, and his stories recalling Groveport’s past, are deeply missed. He was a true journalist and fact-checked what he reported! It’s been a true pleasure to have traveled this life journey with Rick’s presence,” said Councilwoman Jean Ann Hilbert.
The proclamation highlighted Palsgrove’s dedication to neutral and honest journalism, noting that he earned numerous professional awards from Independent Free Papers of America, Community Papers of Ohio and West Virginia, Midwest Atlantic Community Papers, and the Association of Community Newspapers.
Palsgrove’s former publisher, Phil Daubel, also presented him with the front page of the first edition of the Groveport Messenger.
